Suzume

 

先週は、すずめをライオネリさんと見に行きました。えいがはとてもよかったですよ。とてもきれいでちょっとかなしいです。Nico and I went to see Suzume last week. It was very entertaining. I thought that the animation was really on point for this one. I especially liked the animation of the water, more specifically the rain when the worms exploded. I didn't think that the plot was especially profound but it was quite comical seeing one of the characters run around as a chair for most of the movie. It really reminded me of Your Name because of the animation style and the fact that it was a movie about supernatural things happening to a high school student. I would guess that it was the same studio, but I am not sure. I thought that the character the cat played was a really interesting one. We didn't really get to see its real motives, but it was cute and was an extremely effective plot device that was redeemed at the end. The movie was a little emotional for me. Nico will swear that he didn't tear up, but I'll be honest and say I did. The only thing that I found weird was the relationship between the two main characters because of the age difference. I am sure that it is more normal in Japan, but a high schooler and a college student is a bit odd to me. I also didn't like how they treated the guy that the aunt worked with. Bro was simping the entire movie and being helpful to the aunt, but she didn't turn his way once. When she and Suzume got into the fight near the end of the movie and she said "no one likes a woman with a daughter" I immediately thought of the guy who liked her. Anyways,  in the end, it was quite a good movie, I would consider watching it again in a few years.
